Iranian-American filmmaker Desiree Akhavan is the co-creator and star of the award-winning web series “The Slope,” which was featured in The Guardian, Indiewire, Filmmaker Magazine, Brooklyn Magazine and the Huffington Post. Her short film, NOSE JOB, screened at festivals across the US, including The Brooklyn Arts Council’s Scene: Brooklyn. She was recently featured as one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Film as well as OUT Magazine’s 100 Most Compelling People of the Year. Akhavan has a BA from Smith College and is currently in pre-production on her thesis for NYU’s Grad Film Program, DISPOSABLE LOVERS, a feature film inspired by THE SLOPE. The project was selected to participate in IFP’s Emerging Narratives Lab and will begin principal photography in May 2013.
